Musical Her-story for Mary Ann Martinez
Timeline:
2005 - July 24th, Mary's 23rd birthday as well as the day she started playing drum set; a dream come true.
2006 - 2008 - Studied percussion studies and percussion performance consistently at Los Angeles City College.
2009 - Starts playing music for herself; exploring.
2013 - Mary starts to learn and play the frame drum.
2015 - Extensive study and emphasis on the frame drum.
2016 - Mary continues to study frame drumming.
2017 - A year of moving and traveling around.
2018 - Transplanting.
2019 - Sowing seeds again.
2020 - 2021 -
2022 - Open for freelance work including accepting new students for learning the frame drum and drumming through Mary's unique approach she calls "Rhythm Studies." Accepting dates for events and facilitation.

- Private instruction taken for drum set.
2006 - 2008 - Studied percussion studies and percussion performance consistently at Los Angeles City College.
- Performed with LACC's Percussion Ensemble and LACC's Studio Jazz Band.
- Performed with the Los Angeles Doctor's Symphony Orchestra.
- Participated in a Latin Jazz Workshop-Orchestra series with Bobby Matos.
- Facilitated group drumming experiences for LA's B.E.S.T. program (2007).
- Taught individual drum-set lessons for youth aged 5 to 16 years old for City of Los Angeles' Parks & Recreation. (2008)
2009 - Starts playing music for herself; exploring.
2013 - Mary starts to learn and play the frame drum.
- She also performs her own original material under the duet name MaMaKoMa with Kori Marquand.
2015 - Extensive study and emphasis on the frame drum.
- Completed Miranda Rondeau's first-ever six-week series class.
- Completed Alessandra Belloni's Southern Italian frame drumming "Intro to Rhythm is The Cure" workshop at Remo RMC.
- Completed the week long Therapeutic Drumming Course with Kalani Das.
2016 - Mary continues to study frame drumming.
- Completed Alessandra Belloni's first-ever "Rhythm Is The Cure" 3-day Facilitator training at Remo RMC.
- Frame drumming workshop with both Marla Leigh Goldstien and Miranda Rondeau.
- Intro to Tambourine with Miranda Rondeau.
- Becomes contributor of Therapeautic Drumming Course, and attends for a 2nd year.
- Starts teachching private instruction for Rhythm Studies.
- Starts composing songs and rhythms for frame drums.
2017 - A year of moving and traveling around.
- Mary gets the opportunity to go to London for work and decides to raise $2500 to attend Alessandra Belloni's 17th annual "Rhythm Is The Cure" 7 day workshop in Tuscany to better learn Southern Italian Frame Drumming. It was her first trip to Europe.
- Mary becomes a regular visitor and attendee at Remo's Recreation Center in North Hollywood before its closing.
- Mary has to move out of her beloved home of 4.5 years, moves to Los Angeles with friends for 1.5 months before moving to Chicago for work. She moved 3 times in 1 year.
2018 - Transplanting.
- Living out the winter and spring in Chicago, IL, Mary continues to play frame drum and starts playing a little guitar.
- In May gets to work-vacation at Seaside, Florida where her passion for the Southern Italian style of frame drumming is re-ignited.
- In early June she sets out on a 3 month adventure traveling across the northern U.S. states, while also traveling for work, to move back to Los Angeles, CA.
- In late September she finds a room to rent and settles back in Los Angeles after much camping and couchsurfing since leaving Chicago.
- Continues to develop original compositions for frame drum.
2019 - Sowing seeds again.
- Attended Glen Velez & Yousif Sheronick's Frame Drum Intensive in July in Connecticut for her birthday.
- Buys Layne Redmond's Frame Drum Intensive 6-DVD set.
- Performing live on drum set and with frame drum for San Fernando Brewing Co. on Dec 7th, 2019.
2020 - 2021 -
- Learning Guitar
